I am so excited to share with you the quilt that I started back in March. I think of this as my rogue quilt because I started it before my quilting class started and made it strictly following Amy at
Diary of a Quilter's amazingly thorough quilting tutorials (part of her
Beginning Quilting Series). There are shortcuts that I took with this quilt that would make my formal quilting instructor horrified, but I'm learning that the degree to which you follow quilting "rules" is entirely your prerogative.
It wasn't particularly time-consuming to make, but there were often week or longer pauses in which I built up enough courage to move to the next step. For example, I was rather confident in making the quilt top but then terrified to do the quilting...and then even more terrified to make and sew the binding. Turns out, none of it was too complicated, and the tutorials gave instructions on each step (although I was really confused about the meeting of the two ends of the bias binding and ended up making up something that mostly worked).
Of course, this is a special quilt because it's my very first and made just for my first born. I hope she loves it and wears it down to threads. George predicts that in a year or so, she'll be using it as a superhero cape; that would make my heart happy.
Without further ado, here is the quilt:

What a fabulous quilt! I love everything about it, colors, fabrics, whales on the back, and especially the love that went into it. What a treasure! Thank you so much for sharing with me. It makes my heart happy to know those tutorials were helpful.
